Classic Horror Villains

Horror villains have been around for more than a century and new ones continue to pop up as time goes on. However, as new villains emerge we tend to compare them to the classics that we know and love like Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees. Because of this directors and writers are having a harder time coming up with new and original ideas that will stand on their own instead of being compared to the ones that hold a solid foundation in history. Even if we the viewers don’t intentionally make these comparisons, it still happens, wether we like it or not. That is because the mark that the classic villains have left on us is huge and irreplaceable. That’s why you see a lot of sequels and prequels, people just don’t want to see their favorite villain get lost in time.

Now I am all for new movies with the same faces I know and love, however, most of the time these movies are far from being a great as the OG’s and tend to lack several elements that made the originals so good. Take for example the Halloween franchise, one of the most confusing and sloppiest timelines of the horror movie franchise. The reasons this franchise is so messy is because of how many remakes and sequels were produced because directors and fans could not get enough of Michael. This lead to the series taking many different twist and turns to try and make Michael interesting and some sort of cultist, something he never was to begin with. He was just supposed to be some dude in a mask, but with the latest installment, he’s some sort of demon who basically can’t be killed.

Michael isn’t the only villain to get this kind of treatment in his franchise and that’s because of the exact same reason I said before, directors just don’t know when to quiet. A lot of franchises out there progressively got worse and worse as the movies continued and there was no bringing them back due to how complex things had gotten. For this reason alone is I HIGHLY prefer the originals vs anything that was made after. Of course, this isn’t true for all horror movies out there. For example, I really enjoy the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake a lot more than the original. That’s because it’s more graphic and, in my opinion, scarier.

Well, I hope you enjoyed my little talk and horror movie villains! Don’t forget to share this blog with your friends and send me an email with what you want for me to talk about next!
